Origin.

“Best Sci-Fi & Best Director”

★★★★

“It’s a harsh and dramatic story which needs to be told.”

What if your loved one died, but you could clone them and bring them back? Would you do it? Origin tackles this interesting question. It’s an original and cinematic Sci-Fi which has all the ingredients to make this a memorable and entertaining viewing experience for audiences. It’s dramatic and powerful story only builds throughout the film. This is not just for Sci-Fi fans!

Director and writer Caleb Fanning takes on the film with a clear and distinct vision of the story he’s trying to tell. It sets the tone quickly with a film noir quality not often seen in films from the genre. The look and tone of the film is superb which is even more surprising considering the relatively low budget. In the wrong hands this film would be a challenge to make, but the clear direction, high production quality and cast make this a must watch.

Wade King takes on the challenging role of Dorian, who must try to come to terms with the fact that he is a clone. Not something any actor could do, but King does it expertly. He looks great on-screen and grabs your attention. Dorian’s wife ‘Regina’ played by the superb Mandy Fason, takes on the role with ease and handles the more dramatic scenes with total confidence. Both Mandy Fason and Wade King deliver exceptional performances which jumps off the screen. They have a clear chemistry and familiarity with each other which keeps us invested in their story throughout.

The cinematography captured by Blake Elder is done with true skill and and complete understanding of visual storytelling. It’s one of the films many strong points. The score is another aspect of the film that really stands out, it helps to reinforce the Sci-Fi genre and give more gravitas to the story and elevates the performances.

This was a surprising and refreshing watch made with creativity and originality. Give it a watch if you can!
