Forlorn.

“Best Cinematography”

★★★★

“Forlorn not only delivers with its stunning visuals, but also in the execution of the story.”

Asif is a shy, awkward immigrant from a wealthy Indian Muslim family. Uneducated and estranged from his parents, Asif takes a series of low-paying jobs to make ends meet. When he is hired to care for Dave, a paralyzed Vietnam vet, the two men develop a bond that changes them both.

From the first scene of director Shayon Bhattacharya ‘Forlorn’, we could tell that this film was special. The subtle and sombre pace of the film makes you pay attention straight away and want to find out more about the characters.

The story of Forlorn is captivating and has real raw quality to it filled with emotion and depth. Both ‘Preston Sabharwal’ and ‘Marvl Roussan’ were perfectly cast. Both deliver every scene with total authenticity and realism, making for an interesting dynamic between both characters. The warmth and connection between them both is touching and a joy to see. Bhattacharya has made a wonderful film that explores the inner demons of a tortured soul, and lets us all in on the journey to see him overcome them.

The cinematography from DOP ‘Miguel Tafich’ is stunning, capturing the film in a way that looks totally natural and artistic. The use of natural and ambient light fits with the films tone and helps to create a piece that deserves screening on the silver screen. The colour grade is also worth mentioning as it helps to develop the moody colour palette that works hand in hand with the great visuals.

Forlorn not only delivers with its stunning visuals, but also in the execution of the story. We expect this film to do exceedingly well on the festival circuit…
