“Best Special FX”

“If you like horror films then look no further, ‘Frequency’ will have you on the edge of your seat.”

Gea, who survived with other refugees, lives in the shelter away from robot that hunt and kill men. From her escape she will discover her father still alive. But her tenacity will cost her the life. And from her life a hope will be born. A new robot.

We were totally blown away by director Marco Castiglione’ ‘Precursor’ from the opening scene. The use of composting VFX characters into live action scenes is seamless and incredibly well done. Straight away we are thrown into a dark and desolate future which has similar vibes to The Terminator. Not a bad way to start a film!

The quality of this film is superb, and it doesn’t falter for a moment. Castiglione clearly demonstrates a rich knowledge and ability of VFX and how to fit that into an exciting story. It’s especially inspiring and great to see from this talented filmmaker.

Everything about this film works, not just the VFX. The story, cinematography, score, cast and locations are all crafted with expert precision making for a thoroughly enjoyable short film.

The films lead Renata Sboto who plays ‘Gea’ does a terrific job at fitting into the Sci-Fi world and isn’t pushed into overstated scenes of needless exposition. The silence in her performance is realistic and adds plenty of suspense.

Although the story starts off as a dark Sci-Fi, the story develops into a compelling drama full of depth and meaning. The underlying message of what a robot feels is particularly poignant and key to the story. This is not just a film with flashy FX, it has meaning and substance to it that will entertain audiences.

It’s a surprise to watch and will inspire filmmakers of all kinds to push the limits of creativity and develop new ways of filmmaking…
