“Nominated Best Comedy”

★★★★

Finally a short film with a puppet! If you have a chance to watch Bingo, do it!

Two childhood friends parting ways for the very last time. But saying goodbye is never easy.

Let’s start off by stating the obvious… Finally a short film with a puppet! Director Mark Singer delivers his short comedy in the vain of a dramatic thriller with plenty of twists and turns. It all adds to the humour as we finally meet ‘Bingo’ himself. It’s a fun concept you don’t often find in short films that’s produced to a high standard. What’s not to like!

The writing is on the nose and dramatic to create some great opportunities for comedy. It’s in the seriousness of this film that we get some great laughs! How the concept from Mark Singer and Jamie Terry came up in the first place is besides the point, the delivery is what’s most impressive as comedy can be the hardest to pull off to a good standard. Luckily the film has a talented team at to execute a lasting comedy that we expect has or will do well on the festival circuit.

The short run time is perfect as if it were any longer, the film might start to feel repetitive. It can be difficult to decide where to cut a film but they got it just right. The closing credits are also a great example of making use of every sequence in the film as we see Bingo superimposed into old photos of the lead character as a child.

Both Jamie Terry and Emma True take on the roles with complete focus, allowing the viewers to be the only ones laughing. As we mentioned earlier, it’s written as a thriller and delivered as such. The only difference is that one of the characters is a hand puppet. (Cough)

The cinematography jumps out even though it’s relatively simple, in some cases its easy to get too engrossed in shot ideas that we lose focus on the story. DOP Johnny Drake Summers is clearly working on a limited budget but does a great job at making the film look high quality. All of the crew involved should be proud of what they’ve put together which we expect was a lot of fun.

If you have a chance to watch Bingo, do it! The film poster definitely captures the vibe of the film perfectly and what to expect. We hope to see more from Singer and Terry, but more importantly Bingo…
