Her Mother’s Eyes

“Nominated Best Thriller”

★★★★

Director Sawyer Macres has created a lasting thriller that’s well executed.

A mother reckons with feelings of jealousy and longing when her free-spirited daughter returns home for the summer with a new boyfriend.

Her Mother’s Eyes is an intriguing film full of depth and suspense. Director Sawyer Macres has managed to create a gripping story with a shocking ending that audiences won’t see coming. Considering the relatively low budget, it’s refreshing to find such a well executed film that aims high and delivers.

Actress Kimberly Pember is exceptional in the role of Joanne who creates an eerie and chilling performance you can’t quite put your finger on. In the 14 minute run time, we see Pember go through a psychotic breakdown that’s haunting to watch. She was perfectly cast for this role and maintains the films compelling story. The rest of the cast also hold up well to build a ‘perfect’ family image.

Production wise this film is shot beautifully by DOP JD Gonzales who makes full use of the house location. The colour grade by Brian De Herrera-Schnering gives it a distinct thriller look that’s both moody and natural, increasing the production quality considerably. The editing by Tyson Kroening is seamless and well paced, ideal for this type of film.

The same can be said of the score from Austin Mendenhall that matches the spiralling despair of Joanne through the film. It’s clear that a talented team of filmmakers are behind this film and they should all be very proud.

We’re confident that this film will grab audiences attention wherever it’s screened. Director Sawyer Macres has created a lasting thriller that’s well executed.
