“Nominated Best Sci-Fi”

Iris, in her spaceship, approaches the MEDEIA space station after receiving a message from it. But what will she find inside?

It’s the first time we’ve reviewed a Sci-Fi film as unique as Medeia, it’s both fun and cinematic whilst combing two separate genres that you don’t often find together. It caught us by surprise which we expect was intentional by director Jean-Baptiste COURSAULT who delivered an exceptionally great film.

Given the short run time, Medeia packs in a lot and is produced to an exceptionally high standard. Each shot is crafted for the big screen and mixes the live action and VFX shots together incredibly well. We expect the opening shots were made to look as big and cinematic as possible to throw us off the twist ending, which certainly worked! It creates a similar look to 2001: A Space Odyssey which is no mean feat. This was made by true Sci-Fi enthusiasts.

The VFX is striking and sets a wonderfully atmospheric tone for the film. The detailing in the space ship and the vivid lighting all work to give this film a high production value, which is surprising considering the low budget. Jean-Baptiste COURSAULT had a clear vision with the film and sets it up wonderfully.

The score by Youri Rebeko makes a big impact and doesn’t overshadow the visuals, the balance is just right to allow for some truly compelling silence during the space scenes. It’s very effective and helps to make this film a memorable one.

We won’t giveaway the ending but it’s not quite what we expected! This is a film for a wide audience, not just Sci-Fi fans. Enthusiasts may spot certain references to classic Sci-Fi films which is by no means a bad thing. It shows a level of detail that elevates the film and makes it a stand out piece that will get applause from anywhere it’s screened.
