Gold In Them Hills

“Nominated Best Music Video”

★★★★★

It’s one of the best we’ve seen period!

This retro cinematic delight from four-time Emmy nominated filmmaker Jeremy Johnstone has all the ingredients of a cult indie classic. It’s gritty, stylish and most of all compelling. Johnstone and the entire team have taken the track and given it a superb story that captures the essence of the artist’s vision.

Heavily influenced by European film noirs of the 20th Century, this music video has a distinct style about it that you can’t help but be captivated by. There is a sense of mystery and intrigue that feels like a crime drama about to unfold with a range of characters. LA was the perfect backdrop to create a 70s aesthetic and looks surprisingly authentic thanks to the excellent props and wardrobe choices. The music itself is what brings it all in place and sets the tone and atmosphere, making this a perfect combination of audio/visual storytelling.

Johnstone also takes on the cinematography and editing for the video and what an incredible job he did. The lighting is moody and textured that really encompasses the film noir quality to a T. The editing is well paced and gives each of the cast time onscreen. We just wish there was more of it! Instead we’ll need to hit replay to get our fix.

All of the cast did a fantastic job and certainly looked the part and performed magnificently. Speelburg who features on the track also performs in the video and is captivating in every scene he’s in, giving more gravitas to the video as a whole and context.

It’s hard to consider this as just a music video, as it has a film quality to it that’s deep rooted in classic cinema. Johnstone manages to squeeze together a dramatic and exciting story in a relatively short run time that fits the track seamlessly, it’s one of the best we’ve seen period!
