A classic horror film with a solid premise…

A couple of wannabe social influencers try to increase their viewership by breaking into the crime scene of an unsolved vicious mass murder, only to discover that they have fallen into the killer trap.

Director Michael Glynn Macdonald delivers a short and effective horror film that captures many of the typical trademarks and injects a more modern premise to set the foundation on. Considering Macdonald is a film student, it’s inspiring to see such dedication to the genre.

Considering the four minute run time, Macdonald manages to fit in a lot to set a sinister tone to the film, but would have benefitted with a little more time to set up the characters and create suspense. Regardless the film still achieves its objective and will especially entertain horror fans.

The film is shot well and makes use of the space which is stylishly dressed to create an uncomfortable look. The lighting is striking and moody, perfect for this type of film. The subtle VFX to create the social media and computer graphics are solid and add to the story. Overall the team did a great job and made this look more than a typical student film. Performances from Jaira Brownlee and Ryan Chabrel-Davis feel familiar and natural, creating a realistic friendship dynamic quickly. The practical effects are convincing and used sparingly so as not to become over the top for the sake of it.

Macdonald and the team should be proud of what they have achieved here. It has all the ingredients of a classic horror film with a solid premise that could easily be expanded on…
