Chiller

“Nominated Best Horror”

★★★★

It’s both intriguing and full of suspense, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat!

A group of friends reckless decisions lead to unexpected consequences in a forest, where, under the influence of drugs, they experience a surreal reality.

Director Wojtek Adam Węglarski’ ‘Chiller’ has all the qualities of a classic horror and sets up a perfect premise to create a lasting film that audiences will love, especially horror fanatics. It’s both intriguing and full of suspense, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat!

The dynamic between the cast is superb and really adds to the success of the films story. There is a real sense of familiarity and history with the characters that jumps off the screen. The dialogue is natural, relaxed and well paced that doesn’t overstate itself to help push the story. Instead taking its time and giving the audience time to familiarise themselves to the characters. The cast made this their own and each of them should be incredibly proud of their performances. The writing from Węglarski was really on point and creates some stand out moments.

The cinematography by DOP Hasenien Dousery really sets this film apart from other horror’ we’ve seen. Dousery doesn’t play it safe and keeps the camera angles exciting, giving video editor Łukasz Kowalski plenty to work with and craft the film. The film takes a casual pace for the most part which makes some of the more disturbing scenes all the more terrifying and catches you off guard. The lighting is especially impressive, particularly in the night scenes which can be hard to light effectively. The same can be said of the sound design and minimal score which really create a disturbing tone for the film. All the crew did a superb job during production and has resulted in a film that really raises the bar.

What we liked most about this film was its simplicity, something that is much harder to pull off than the more convoluted storylines. Węglarski allows the cast to really explore their characters by not forcing the premise. This instead allows the viewer to take more interest in the story that unfolds and pay attention. We highly recommend giving this excellent horror a watch if you have the chance…
