BLOOD RUN THROUGH ME

“Nominated Best Music Video”

★★★★

We can always expect good things from this talented and creative filmmaker.

A group of very different individuals experiencing a song and expressing themselves each in their own way.

Once again we’ve been lucky enough to review work from director Jeremy Johnstone with his latest music video Blood Run Through Me and as expected he didn’t disappoint. The concept is totally original and allowed for some incredible moments on camera that grabs hold of you gently.

The track from musician Heather Woods Broderick is very compelling and immersive, something that would challenge many directors to compliment visually. Which is why the concept from Johnstone works so well, using multiple dancers to perform differently to the same track really opens up the film visually.

The performances from each of the dancers is raw and authentic, adding their own take on the track to create a medley of interpretations. It’s a fitting direction for the track which is why it works so well. It’s a bold choice that paid off.

The camera work was well paced and framed, catching moments from the dancers that may otherwise go unnoticed if it were kept on a wide lens the majority of the time. This handheld approach with time-remapping really helped capture moments from the dancers to fit the track seamlessly in the edit. The infinity cove was a solid choice for filming location to help create a stripped back look. This could also be due to the black and white colour grade to help the dancers pop against the background. Regardless it’s a solid look for the film that gives us plenty of 90s music video vibes.

We thoroughly enjoy the work of Johnstone and it’s no surprise due to his catalogue of work. We can always expect good things from this talented and creative filmmaker. This music video is just the tip of the iceberg…
