CONTRACT

“Nominated Best Comedy”

★★★★

A refreshing film that takes itself completely seriously, something all good comedies should strive for.

A sardonic and depressed paranormal investigator takes on a job that's more than he bargained for.

Director and lead actor Jack Alejandro Young takes us on a shockingly gory adventure full of blood and laughs. It’s a refreshing film that takes itself completely seriously, something all good comedies should strive for.

Young takes on writing, directing and acting in this film which is by no means an easy feat. Taking on so many duties is a challenging task but he manages to deliver and doesn’t feel out of place in the lead role. Young also brought in a good cast to play off. The film has a rough and ready style to it that actually helps thanks to the genre.

Cinematography by Travis Eckland was a big part of why this film excelled, as without it the laughs would have been a lot more subtle. With horror comedies like this, the visuals are so key to getting it right. However this team had no problem pulling it off. The lighting is also worth mentioning as it really gives the film its own identity and adds that horror element you expect. It’s done well and the team behind it did a great job.

The writing from Young is sound and really captured similar themes from classic horror films. However in this case everything is flipped on its head to get laughs, reminding us why playing it serious is the best choice. It has some great gags that you see coming a mile off but they still work.

If you’re looking for a fun horror comedy full of laughs and stupid humour then Contract is a film for you. Young and the whole team did an excellent job and looks like a film that was a blast to make…
