THE TRAPER:

DEAD BY DAYLIGHT

“Nominated Best Horror”

★★★★

It’s a chilling story with great FX and gory results.

A group of strangers find themselves struggling to survive in a deadly game orchestrated by an unknown force. The group must work together to find a way to escape, all while being hunted by a deadly killer named "The Trapper".

Director Jared Cline wastes no time getting straight into his short horror film with a terrifyingly nail biting opening sequence. If you’re into your horror films like many are, then this will certainly be a film for you.

Cline clearly has a passion for horror as he also wrote the film. The grungy setting and great premise makes for a perfect combination to set our characters in. Sticking strangers in a room and watching them try to escape is always going to work, but Cline adds his own take on the genre. One of the most captivating aspects of the film is that of the costume design for the films villain ‘The Trapper’ which is hauntingly eye catching. It works very well within the art direction at creates a memorable visual that great horror villains share.

The cast of Nikki Dixon and Crystal Cook have superb chemistry and certainly hold up with the challenging demands of the story which would be a struggle for many performers. Cline did well to cast them as they both bring something to the table to make this film work.

The editing in the film is worth noting as there is a lot of material to work with and involved a lot of frantic scenes to cut. Which brings us to the camerawork which is spot on for this genre and really elevates the overall production. Director of Photography Shaun Peter Cunningham knew exactly what style of film this was and ran with it. The lighting effects and colours really gave the film a unique style that isn’t often seen in the more ‘desaturated’ horror films of late. It was an intelligent choice and worked well!

Overall this is a great choice for horror fans and will certainly get a lot of applaud. It’s a chilling story with great FX and gory results. But we must warn those of you that are not ready for such gruesome detail…
