“Best Fantasy”

★★★★★

“A truly stunning film which deserves to be seen on the silver screen with a packed audience.”

Oliver Hollingdale’s epic fantasy Valravn starts big and doesn’t stop there. Holingdale shows great attention to detail with a complete understanding of the mythology behind the films overall theme.

What audiences will notice first is that this film doesn’t feel cheap, not at all. The cinematography is breathtakingly stunning and accompanied by a powerful score that fits the genre seamlessly.

The location is the perfect setting and gives the viewer time to discover the unique world Holingdale is creating. It’s no wonder the use of aerial filming was used heavily throughout as the landscape deserved to be captured. What’s also key here is the authentic and believable costume design which helps towards taking the audience out of their seat and into the film.

Hollingdale also stars which is surprising as the film itself would have been a huge undertaking. But he manages to deliver a superb performance that he’s perfectly cast for and entices the audience in. The additional cast also works within this world and feel part of it, each having their own unique look which helps them stand out and become more memorable.

The score and sound design wouldn’t be out of place in Game of Thrones or Lord of the Ring’s which are clearly influences for the film. The high quality mix is a huge achievement in itself and helps craft this story throughout.

This is a truly stunning film which deserves to be seen on the silver screen with a packed audience. Well done to all involved.
